People use “sponsor” to describe several unrelated kinds of support. A family member sponsoring permanent residence, an employer hiring a foreign worker, and an organization funding tuition do not follow the same process. Clarify which kind of support you need before paying anyone or sharing your documents.

Family sponsorship is a defined immigration process

An eligible sponsor may apply to sponsor a qualifying spouse, partner, dependent child, or other family member under the applicable rules. A real qualifying relationship is essential. The sponsor must meet the requirements and accept the relevant financial undertaking.

Parent and grandparent permanent residence sponsorship is subject to intake rules and is not interchangeable with the Super Visa. A family invitation letter for a visitor visa is also different from sponsoring permanent residence. A stranger offering to “sponsor” you for a fee is not a substitute for program eligibility.

Employer support starts with a genuine job

A Canadian employer may need a Labour Market Impact Assessment or may hire through an applicable exemption. The employer process and the worker’s immigration application are separate. Some regional permanent residence routes require designated employers and additional provincial or community steps.

Check the employer, the actual vacancy, pay, duties, location, and written terms. Do not purchase a job offer or an LMIA. An introduction does not guarantee hiring, work authorization, a nomination, or permanent residence. Employers must follow the relevant recruitment-fee rules.

Scholarships and financial support fund education

Scholarships, bursaries, research funding, assistantships, and family financial support can help with education costs. Each has its own selection criteria, deadlines, permitted uses, and evidence requirements. Confirm awards directly with the school or awarding organization.

An award is not a study permit approval. Check how and when the funds become available and whether the evidence meets your application requirements. School sponsorship, tuition discounts, or education-agent commissions should never be presented as government endorsement.

Refugee sponsorship is a separate protection route

Private refugee sponsorship has specific sponsor categories, applicant requirements, responsibilities, and intake restrictions. It is not a general immigration route for someone seeking a job or a degree.

Some sponsor categories are paused or limited. A person facing danger should seek qualified protection advice for their circumstances. Do not assume a paid matching service can create eligibility, obtain a sponsorship place, or control a government decision.

What to ask before accepting an introduction

Ask who the organization is, what it is authorized to do, whether it has a real relationship with the employer or school, and who receives any fee or commission. Get the proposed service and refund terms in writing.

Use independently found contact details to verify offers. Avoid payments to an individual for a guaranteed job, visa, nomination, or sponsorship allocation. Do not send identity documents until you know who is requesting them and why.
